Huh. Apparently it's for testing user input (along with is_finite and is_nan).

8146949640E+6918468416246824 is infinite (for certain values of infinity).

or any value too big to fit into a float on this platform.
They should've just named it too_big_for_platform() . Is_infinite() returning true on a finite number is a bug where I come from.
