Nothing like trying to fix broke parts with other broken parts.
What a day!

About to do the same - as soon as the sun comes up. My wi-fi adapter stopped working. If this was on the laptop I'd be screwed, but this is on an old desktop and it's on an internal card. I've got another wi-fi card somewhere - just need to find it with all the other junk in the shed. And then hope it works.

My scenario was a customer took a while to upgrade their electronics. Upgrade is still on progress. So, in the meantime, I'll stuck trying to make their old stuff work work each other.

Understood. In my case I'm on a 10 year old desktop. I put in an SSD last year to make it usable with modern operating systems. The wi-fi card in the shed was pci and the one in the computer was pci-e. So I had to take out the audio interface to get a spare pci slot to bring networking back. The audio interface is yet another anachronism. It's a 'Juli@' card from 2007. They stopped updating the drivers for it in Windows7 (less than 2 years later) and it was sitting in the shed as an expensive brick until I discovered just a few years ago that there was a Linux driver for the thing. Since I do use it now, this is only a temporary solution and I'll probably get a new wi-fi card on eBay so i can put everything back the way it was last week before the wi-fi chip gave out - and still use this ancient piece of shit the way I wanted.

This totally sounds like how I like to do things. 🤣 If it still works.... make it work. 😉
