Rodents. Millions of rodents. Everywhere. With more arriving daily.

Not sure what happened, but this is kind of spooky. After a few months of steadily increasing rodent populations, suddenly they're gone. No I mean gone as in I haven't seen a rat or mouse in over a week. And this is a farm in the country in the middle of a rodent plague in winter. There aren't any mice trying to burrow into the chook shed overnight. Nothing scurrying around the hay bales when I open the shed. Gone. I did put out a small bit of bait a couple weeks back but that was just to get the rats out of the roof before they chewed through it. That was consumed long ago and I haven't replenished it. I'm not crazy about using bait incidentally. No, they're just gone. While this would seem to be a relief, I'm actually quite troubled. Where in tarnations did they all go? That's a lot of rodents to simply vanish. Nobody is talking about this on the radio so I'm wondering if the government has been doing some kind of secret "research" into exotic pest-control technology here in the Blue Mountains.

I have noticed more birds than normal. They would normally have flown north to Queensland this time of year. Maybe that would explain it. But I've noticed "some" more birds than normal. Not quantities of biblical proportions as we saw with the mice. It's just weird.

@Oliver I grew up near Hamelin. During summer we sometimes visited the open air "re-enactment", excitting for this little child. They still employ a pied piper to play fornthe tourists.
There's also a Glockenspiel I have seen so often I still can play it from memory.
I believe Hamelin was also the first library I visited as my father used to be a regular.
