Mick (Crocodile) Dundee is coming back for a threequel - this
Mick (Crocodile) Dundee is coming back for a threequel - this time the story is centered in LA. It'll probably be funny. The business owners have probably already done the math and calculated that I won't see it in the theatre but I'll probably check out the DVD in another year or two. Was interesting to hear Paul Hogan's take on Survivor:Outback. "They could have just done it in Central Park." Which got me thinking, why not Silicon Valley? Instead of walking off with a million cash, the winner will get 50,000 options in Yahoo at some insanely low price. This sets up the possibility for long term programming royalties as they follow up on the so-called winner after every Wall Street hickup and earnings surprise/warning. The person would also have to play the ultimate strategy game - against themselves. Primarily when to cash in, but then the show could come back for the big surprise in the following tax season. Now that's entertainment...
Something doesn't quite add up... Cisco CEO John Chambers is foregoing all but a buck of his salary this year. So is Chairman of the board Morgridge. This was announced at the Silicon Valley Charity Ball. They're doing this to save the jobs of three - that's right three employees who would've suffered undue hardship if they were among the 8500 people currently being laid off. I don't know Morgridge's salary, but Chambers is 1.3 million (not counting options). So I won't even include Morgridge's salary, but figure it close to doubles the following numbers. That means that each of the three people are costing over $400,000 a year to employ. Seems a bit steep, even if you assume bay area wages and overhead rates. And where did they come up with 8500 anyway? Seems awful strange to pull out such a round number if 3 people makes a difference. If you take this rate and multiply it by 8500 you could then figure out that they plan to save 3.4 billion this year through layoffs. That's more than their total net profit for the last year. Funny numbers somewhere, or Chambers just wanted some positive press at the charity ball to sound magnanimous after axing 8500 people. My dollar says it's the latter.
