After thinking I was nearing the end of this flu bug, it decided to go intestinal. I'll spare you the details but this is decidedly not enjoyable.
Figured I have about six weeks to transform myself into a reputable business-person. Granted the business part is the easy one... But this is a fixed time limit with many things to accomplish - and one must also subtract the holiday season so I'm realistically looking at about 4 weeks. I've got to get licenses and bank accounts set up, get insurance, negotiate a lease, and get a cash register because the present owner wishes to keep the one that's there. The clock is ticking. Time to go into laser focus mode. Most of my friends know that when this happens, they stop hearing from me until I come up for air again. It isn't personal. My brain is occupied with checklists and I just go through them methodically; avoiding distractions such as shaving, food, and even sex. I can recall assigning people to check in every couple of weeks to make sure I've eaten something. Might happen again. Hopefully this blog will be a decent source of info on what's going on. (The word comes from weB-LOG, which as it turns out is the now-common name for web diaries such as this.)
I actually look at the current war as entertainment. Allow me to explain - I'm a child of the fifties, and until about 10-15 or so years ago nuclear destruction of the planet was inevitable. Maybe it still is, but the collapse of the USSR changed everything. The world is breaking up from huge governing bodies into feudal societies, as I noted in a high school essay in 1972 (and was flunked on). Those of us who are children of that generation have already accepted death by radiation/holocaust. There was no choice. What has changed is that the threat of mutually assured destruction is a bit less, and more people will ultimately survive when it finally comes about. It's like getting another birthday. It's nearly 2002 and I'm still living my dreams. We should've all been gone by now...
It's like going from a firing squad to a game of Russian roullette. Sure you can still lose the game, but the odds are a bit better.
