I really don't like writing about this war any more.

I really don't like writing about this war any more. This has happened way too many times now. Here's what I mean... Yesterday I critiqued our 'police services' in Baghdad as non-existant and perhaps pointing out a flaw in our overall strategy, like other flaws in our overall strategy before that. The next day (today), all the armchair generals point out that they have a concern, mirroring my rants of a day earlier. A day or two later and the pentagon starts to do something about it. I've been quite aghast at how close I've come to figuring out what's likely to happen tomorrow; and how poorly the pentagon has reacted in a timely manner to prevent it. I'm not boasting. This isn't rocket science (ok, I did work for NASA once). This is just common sense, and there seems to be a very unhealthy shortage of it amongst our leadership.

Have you ever tuned a guitar? How do you do it? There are three or four methods. Those who want to look like pros use harmonic tuning. I hate harmonic tuning. It's only used by snobs and wannabes. And I found out why I hate it so much. It doesn't work. If you use harmonic tuning, your guitar will be out of tune. None of the chords sound right. I have the mathematical proof that it can't ever work, though I already knew it instinctively. So next time somebody tries to impress you by tuning with harmonics, you can chuckle to yourself and recognize them for what they are. The explanation would take too much time, but it all has to do with pure and equal-tempered scales; the same reason that professional piano tuners intentionally add in a 'fudge factor' to their precise electronic equipment.
