The new diary software is under development in another space.
The new diary software is under development in another space. You'll continue to see things here until it's all in a presentable form. The first thing that deserved attention is the storage format. This is what separates the men from the boys in the software world. The boys always start with the application features and handle data storage as an afterthought. I've been around a bit longer. How you store your information is where it all begins. Learned that in the email world. But likewise, you can't hard-code the data storage format into the application. It will probably change.
The next thing is to examine what you're trying to do. A blog - like I've said previously, isn't rocket science. The software I've got now goes through whenever you add or change a single entry and creates a thousand web pages. Every daily entry, every monthly entry, the archive indexes, and the main page. That's a lot of pages. But wait - let's look at this again. There are really only four page types. The difference between that and the hundreds or thousands of pages is only in the content. We can simplify this a whole bunch. Just create four pages which can dynamically load the proper content. Then nothing needs to change when a new page is added. Four web pages with a bit of smarts in them. Then just drop the content (i.e. the actual daily rants) somewhere where it can be found. All of a sudden this problem got a whole lot easier...
