The focus is still on hurricane Rita, even though it kinda' wimped out. Every channel, Rita, Rita, Rita. The real flood damage was in India. And the news focus on this single event has also overshadowed the latest problems in Isrealistine; where they are exchanging some serious rocketry.

What have we learned from Rita? Evacuation plans need to be scrapped and re-written. In order to evacuate a major US city or region, one needs plenty of gasoline. And it needs to be there ahead of time. But the real stinker is the highway system. We just don't have enough roads to empty out a major metropolitan area. If I were tasked with an evacuation plan for say, Los Angeles - I'd have to say the most effective plan would be 'leave everything and walk out'.
