Some days it's just plain frustrating... I must've had 50 customers this morning. That's good you'd think. But every single one of them was pushing along a three or four year old in a tram. Won't be selling clarinets or drumsets to any of them for at least four or five years. Likewise forget selling them a high-end guitar. Must've answered the same question twenty times. What violin would you recommend for my three year old? None of them. I point to the instrument I'm working on. This violin was bought for a three year old last weekend. See how the neck is broken off? Over here are some of the pieces of the bow. But your child is well behaved you say? Right. So was this one.

Managed to unload a handful of kazoos and cheap ukeleles. Sometimes I wonder what business I'm in. What downtown Mountain View seems to need desperately is a toy store. Gotta' run. Another lady with a tram...

Turned out to be the lady who brought in the smashed violin. She brought me some Chinese cookies for being polite and not scolding her little brat. No doubt she also thinks it will give her some leverage to haggle the repair bill. Right. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and stuff the shelves with some Barney toys. The gumball machine is already on its way. I'm serious. Simple math - all these kids coming in and I'm always running out of quarters.

"I don't know why, but first C programs tend to look a lot worse than
first programs in any other language (maybe except for fortran, but then
I suspect all fortran programs look like `firsts')"
