My business nieghbor was dumping some old 486 computers. And a couple of old Macs. Wow. Free linux terminals. This made me think a bit. Linux quite possibly could slowly take over the world. The reason? People have made it work on most all of the outdated computers in the world over the last 20 years. Of which there are heaps - mostly in third world countries now. But Microsoft doesn't even support their older operating systems. Some of the others don't even exist anymore. But you can put Linux on Sun-3's. VAX's. Even old IBM mainframes. Not to mention everything from a 386 on and most Macs. You can put it on your Palm Pilot or cable box. Now think a minute. There are more obsolete computers in existence than new ones. Companies and people turn them over every couple of years. The operating system go obsolete before five years. Do the math. Millions per year going obsolete. But they can be revived.
