Joe noticed that the 'Reverse Sort' on this blog doesn't work. Sigh. Works just fine for me. It's a cookie thing. IE and Opera don't allow cookies by default these days. I guess it isn't smart to rely on them. But how else to store a user preference? Where else can you store the fact that you want a reversed blog? Requiring a login on a blog isn't very sociable. So forget a server-side database. What else is there?

URL's. Bookmarks. Encode the sort preference into the URL itself. That's all we've got left to work with. Turns out it's all I need.

Try this - macgirvin.com/blog?R

You can bookmark it and get a reverse sort on all the archive pages every time you visit. That's the bookmark version. The basic URL format is macgirvin.com/index.php?MMM-YYYYR to get a reverse sort for any specific month. But you don't need to know that. If you click 'Reverse Sort' it should just work.

I've got no problem with clicking the little arrow NEXT to reverse sort and going to the latest entry. Besides, it let's me see the quote of the day too!
