This just in...
This just in... Did you know that somewhere around 80% of high school kids have (gasp) consumed alcohol? And that girls are just as likely to imbibe as boys? Again I have to question the people who did the study and their methods. The numbers sound about right to me for just about any period in history, including my own high school years. Well, except that we had a significant percentage which preferred LSD over alcohol. So why was this on the news this morning?
One of my suppliers sent me a whole bunch of promo bumper stickers with 'I (heart) my guitar'. Convinced one of the guitar students to take one (they're free). Guess which student? The gal who was beating her instrument into the case last week. I (heart) the subtle approach...
Today was a bit of a milestone - that is if it ever develops into any kind of regular pattern. It was a great sales day, and without selling any high-ticket items. Just sundries and books and strings and stuff. It's the first tangible evidence that diversifying the inventory has had an effect. Usually it takes at least one instrument sale to carry a day. Also, more than half of the sales were things the store never carried prior to 1/1. So it's an encouraging bit of data, even though as I keep repeating - this is retail. One data point doesn't mean a thing. You need to have enough to make a cluster before you can claim anything.
