I usually don't fall for spam but this one intrigued me enough to give it a whirl and get sucked in - CrushLink.com (I refuse to link to it) where purportedly somebody had claimed to have a crush on me and I could find out who by creating an account and logging in. I did so, and was presented with a page letting me try and guess who it was. You can guess up to ten people and they all get emails telling them that somebody has a crush on them (you). You only find out who it was if you guess who it was; in which case they tell you. Then I looked again at the invitation and it was sent to an email address which I don't recall giving to anybody. So my guess it that it was pure spam and (sigh...) nobody has a crush on me. But talk about viral marketing...
Opened the mail (the paper kind) to find that I managed to amass $68.00 in royalties from downloads of my online music. And they sent me a check! I was quite stunned. Based on historical data, I was expecting maybe a buck or two, and that they might send me a check that would buy a six-pack of beer around 2007. I could've arranged this so that I could sell CD's online and intentionally generate profits, but these royalties are from just uploading some music I had sitting around and letting folks listen if they wanted. I'm not even sure who's paying because you can download all you want at no cost.
