Election day.
Election day. I waited in line for a half hour this morning but will have to return after work. A lot of people voting.
Either way it goes, I can only hope that it will soon be over. It's been a trying exercise to find reliable news feeds the last few weeks. I had to resort to Al-Jazeera's website to get a full transcript of Osama's video the other night. If you read the entire transcript it tells a much different story than the soundbites on the major news networks. A couple of days ago, zero news came out of Iraq. For the whole day. The only newsworthy items were provided by the brits. That's curious don't you think? The next day the Iraqi news continued as normal. Kidnappings, uprisings, roadside bombs, ambushes, you know - the regular stuff...
Also curious is that it's 3PM here on the west coast and there are no exit polls. Zip, zero, zilch, nada. Everybody learned the last time around. Nobody will stick their neck out and declare that anybody is winning anything.

I'm often asked the question, "Do you think there is extraterrestrial intelli-
gence?" I give the standard arguments -- there are a lot of places out there,
and use the word *billions*, and so on. And then I say it would be astonishing
to me if there weren't extraterrestrial intelligence, but of course there is as
yet no compelling evidence for it. And then I'm asked, "Yeah, but what do you
really think?" I say, "I just told you what I really think." "Yeah, but
what's your gut feeling?" But I try not to think with my gut. Really, it's
okay to reserve judgment until the evidence is in.
