This is incredibly frustrating.

This is incredibly frustrating. I can read my mail just fine but can't send any without pulling up a web-based service. Seems that my PacBell Internet providor (Prodigy) isn't letting me connect to port 25 of any machine except perhaps their own. Port 25 is where you send email. I can access any other internet service in the book, but sending mail is like important to me. Even though I get this service free with my DSL line, that makes it kinda' useless if I can only read mail when I'm out of town. Sometimes it's necessary to reply. I've been through most every other possibility, and trust me remote troubleshooting isn't fun. It isn't my laptop, it isn't my server and it isn't either of the operating systems. Everything works fine if I use another service. So the service is blocking me, and it is blocking access to specifically the mail port of every machine I attempt to contact, such as Yahoo.
