Hmmm... Was poking around Yahoo this morning. Noticed something interesting. Did you know that when you click on a link from a google search, you go right to the website? You probably didn't know or even care. But when you click on a link from a Yahoo search, you go back to yahoo - and then to the place that was linked to. The difference is that google can keep track of what you looked for, but yahoo can also keep track of what you found that interested you and where you went. Something google can't do (yet, they released a new test product two days ago to give it a try). And therein lies some very important data that has intrinsic value. For instance when you look for 'polish', do you go to hotdog websites or furniture websites or joke websites? This could be used to determine what order to show the search results. It can also be used to decide which ads to show.
The radio had an interview this morning with Phil Lesh - who once played with a band called the Grateful Dead. (Seems I have to explain everything these days). He's 65 this year. Now I'm starting to feel old...
