This is real tacky.

This is real tacky. Time-Warner is auctioning off 200 first-name at Netscape.com email addresses. Mike@Netscape.COM is for sale. I used to have that address. And Amanda, and Erica, and Erin, Todd - all for sale. I recognize about half of the names as folks I once worked with.

Hin dropped by. Used to work with him. He got laid off in the last round and filled me in with the gossip from the trenches. Most of the folks from early cutbacks are somewhat stable in other ventures now. Startups are starting up. There are a handful of tech jobs, but the competition is fierce. Gotta' know somebody. Fortunately for me, I still know a lot of folks that are now spread far and wide; but I'm not in that market anymore. It doesn't matter. It's the regeneration cycle. Silicon Valley workers are all temp workers. They band together in groups and move on to the next big thing. The companies are all transitory. But we're all in this together. Gotta' dream up a new product that somebody is going to want to buy. Out of thin air. Then sell as many as you can before it goes obsolete or somebody else sells it cheaper. That's what we've always done. Hmmm. Maybe I'm still in that market after all.

There is always one thing to remember: writers are always selling somebody out.
