The countertop dude came and went this morning. Now only a few weeks
left until a fully functional kitchen again. But waiting for him
started me thinking about this whole concept of service
windows, which started a few years ago with the utility
companies. Prior to that, they would give you a date that they would
come and connect stuff or do whatever and you had to take the whole
day off of work, even if you were the last customer on the list and
there's no way they could've shown up before four. Then
enough people complained that they broke it into half days. So then
everybody in the 'meet you at home' trades followed blindly along;
when prior to that they would actually set a time to meet you. Now
everybody makes you take a half day off from work because they
never seem to show up at the beginning of the window. I live close
enough towork that I could be home to meet somebody in five minutes,
but no - I have to sit there all morning/afternoon and wait for them
to show up. And they all have cell phones and so do I. Does anybody
but me think this is ludicrous?
If you read yesterday's blurb you know I got the furniture assembled
last night. But I didn't get to the drawer knobs. Oh well.
