What could they be thinking? Headline news is filling in dead

What could they be thinking? Headline news is filling in dead time between the world's daily sound bites with how to build a water garden. This is the same news network currently giving us daily progress reports on the spread of the mosquito-borne west nile virus.

Speaking of insects, just found a bee's nest in the attic. Yuck. They're not a threat currently, but they've gotta' go. Think I'll call in a professional. Then patch up the hole they squeezed through so it doesn't happen again.

Fossilized camels show up in SOCAL. Apparently they evolved on this continent before spreading elsewhere. Imagine camels roaming the southern desert, well before it became L.A.. Amazing but strange critters for sure.

Some nut is running around sniping people with an AR-15. Curious choice of armaments. It's a pretty run-in-the-mill varmint gun unless you put a lot of time to make it better. It's not meant for long distance. Civilian version of the standard US military rifle. Not usually the instrument of choice for any third-world soldiers. This guy's not a true sniper. He's a hunter or soldier. The difference is about a thousand yards.

I *know* it's weird, but strict vars already comes very, very close to
partitioning the crowd into those who can deal with local lexicals and
those who can't.
